Avid Assistant Editor

MHP seeks an organized, detail-oriented, technically-adept freelance Avid-trained assistant editor to provide immediate support on a documentary feature film moving into post-production. Working in close collaboration with the film’s director, producer, post production manager and technical advisors, the assistant editor will play a critical role in helping to migrate the project's current workflow from Adobe to Avid and building the Avid project in preparation for the edit.

Responsibilities include:

  • Creating and organizing an Avid project that reflects existing project organization and folder structure in coordination with our technical advisor
  • Transcoding 200+ hours of footage
  • Syncing and grouping all media
  • Importing scene logs from Google docs for optimal integration with Avid with markers, columns, etc (production assistant will create logs themselves)
  • Formatting existing transcripts for import into ScriptSync (production assistant will create actual transcriptions)
  • Assist in setting up two editors for remote working with necessary drives and materials
  • Maintain ongoing media management for new footage
  • Consulting with a technical adviser in creating a roadmap for post-production

Job Requirements:

  • Candidate must have skill, passion and excitement for the technical aspects of post production on an independent feature-length documentary
  • Advanced proficiency in Avid Media Composer and ideally also Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Proficiency with media management, managing backups, syncing audio, creating proxies
  • Enthusiasm troubleshooting technical issues with gear and post production, capacity to problem solve independently and in consultation with technical project advisors
  • Knowledge of single and double system audio configuration + 4K post-production workflow a plus
  • Experience with basic verité documentary editing a plus
  • Highly-organized, detail-oriented, superb communicator, excellent project management skills
  • Flexible schedule, willingness to learn, work hard, problem-solve, work independently and collaborate closely with our team, maintain a positive attitude, and easily adapt to changing production schedule

Timeframe:

Looking to hire someone immediately for a 4-8 week contract on an hourly basis, with potential to extend further
