The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange & Study Program (YES) is a grant program established in 2002 in response to the events of September 11, 2001, and funded by the U.S. Department of State. The program awards scholarships to high school students from more than 40 countries with significant Muslim populations, giving them the opportunity to spend up to a year living with a host family in the U.S., and to attend an American high school. This public diplomacy initiative builds bridges of international understanding, especially between Americans and people in countries with significant Muslim populations.
During the summer of 2010, Meridian Hill Pictures filmed with youth participants in the program during their stay on American University's campus. For more information, visit: http://www.yesprograms.org.
